Answered RFI concerning RipRap: QUESTION:Spec Section 31 23 00, Paragraph 2.4 indicates that the Rip-Rap material
shall be granite based. The nearest source for obtaining granite is in the
Rocky Mount, NC area.

Also, the existing rip-rap currently being used on the Lima drainage area is
a limestone based rock that can be obtained from a local source.
Obtaining a limestone based rock from a local source will result in a
significant financial savings to the government.

May the contractor use limestone based rock in lieu of granite based rock
for the Rip-Rap material?

Please advise. Thanks.

ANSWER: Granite is specified due to its weight and appearance, with weight being the
primary reason we desire to leave the granite as specified.

Answered RFI concerning concrete barriers:   QUESTION: We are having problems locating a supplier or manufacturer for the
Concrete Barriers. Everyone we talk to will only supply or make a DOT
barrier which is unacceptable according to the specs. Could some info be
provided for a manufacturer/ Supplier for these items?
Thanks,

ANSWER:  C Construction has barrier forms set up at their laydown area at the end of
Delta Taxiway if the contractor wishes to view that operation.  To get there
without crossing the runway, take the dirt road off of Cunningham, near the
Cunningham Gate.  Those forms were/are being used under two existing
contracts.
Answered RFI concerning sealcoat: QUESTION: We have unable to find any manufacturers that meet the specifications other
than the one found in Spec Section 31 01 22, Paragraph 2.1 for the
Bituminous Sealcoat Material.

Can three (3) manufacturer's of an equivalent product be provided to the
bidders for consideration?

How would you like us to proceed?

ANSWER: The sealcoat product specified in Amendment 1, Spec Section 32 01 22 (not 31
01 22) is the only product we know of that meets the listed specifications.
This product has undergone extensive testing and is the only product that
will be approved by NAVFAC engineers.

Answered RFI concerning job mix and testing: QUESTION:  Will the mix have to be designed by an independent lab or can
one of our internally designed mixes be ok for use?

How would you like us to proceed?

ANSWER:  Per Spec Section 32 12 15 and related amendments, contractor is responsible
for the job mix formula and laboratory testing.  MCAS Cherry Point does not
typically require an independent lab like the Corps of Engineers sometimes
does.  Amendment 3 allows NCDOT certified labs in lieu of AMRL.  There does
not appear to be a requirement for an independent lab.  Job Mix Formula is
part of the submittal procedures and it appears that an internally designed
mix will be OK.
